(1)When coloring your hair it should be done two weeks before a Thermal Recondition because if the hair has 2 inches of natural virgin regrowth we will have to use regular formula on the roots and then color treated formula on mid shaft down. And then if it is a thermal retouch you will need another formula on ends. Sometimes I don't have enough room to work the regular formula with my finger on the virgin hair and I will overlap the regular formula onto the colored treated hair causing the hair to over process. So if this might be the case I will not use the regular formula at all and I will only use color formula which will not take properly on the virgin hair resulting in a under process reaction. This process turns out to be more time consuming, and more product use, resulting in an extra charge.
(2) Remember when doing a straightener you must deal with the different levels throughout the hair shaft.
When you highlight your hair and then get a thermal recondition, I cannot guarantee that the hair that is not highlighted will become as straight as the highlighted bleached strands of hair, since I have to use a bleach formula to protect the highlighted hair. If the highlights are thin strands it will be impossible to isolate the stands and apply two different formula's. We might have a better chance at doing this process if the highlighted strands are thicker. This way I can foil out the highlighted hair stands. This procedure is very time consuming and there will be an extra charge.
(3)If you are going to get a thermal recondition get your highlights two weeks after. So the bleach will grow out with your Thermal, so when you come back for a retouch I will only have to straighten the virgin regrowth. I tell clients to let their highlights grow out with your thermal and use a semi color to blend while the bleach highlights grow out.
(4)If you have 4A and 4b hair texture and you are planing on having a relaxer or a thermal recondition have your hair professionally colored Your texture can be tricky, sometimes the hair has so many different porosity levels that the hair does not take the color evenly and you will get incomplete coverage.
(5)I do not advise getting a highlight when using a sodium hydroxide relaxer.
(6)I will not do a thermal on hair that has both bleach and sodium hydroxide on it.
